CRAWER has introduced an updated version of its most popular work light. The original CR-1022 has been replaced by three new models: the CR-1022-40, CR-1022-60 and CR-1022-90. The final number in each product name indicates the beam angle.

This article covers why the product was updated, what has changed, and how to match the right variant to the right application — useful reference information for dealers advising customers on work light selection.

The Origin of the CR-1022

The CR-1022 was first introduced in 2019. CRAWER developed it as a direct LED replacement for the Hella Ultrabeam halogen work light, a lamp that has been widely used on tractors and agricultural machinery since the 1980s.

The brief was clear: develop a work light that closely resembles the original design and retains its familiar, understated appearance. The lamp needed to fit the same mounting bracket, allowing straightforward replacement of existing halogen units. And it needed to deliver a powerful, effective light pattern.

The CR-1022 proved significantly more popular than anticipated.

Why an Updated Version?

Since 2019, LED technology has advanced considerably. The original CR-1022’s output of 4,500 lumen remained adequate, but new developments made higher performance achievable. The lens coating also warranted updating after several years in production.

In 2024, CRAWER began development of a successor. Rather than updating a single aspect of the lamp, all possible improvements were incorporated in a single redesign.

The result is a completely updated CR-1022 with higher light output, an improved lens coating, the latest LED technology, and a choice of three beam angles.

From 4,500 to 6,500 Lumen

To handle the higher power output efficiently, CRAWER redesigned and enlarged the cooling surface of the lamp. The updated CR-1022 runs at 55 watts, compared to 45 watts for the previous model.

The choice of 55 watts was deliberate: it matches the power consumption of the Hella Ultrabeam halogen work lights for which the CR-1022 was developed as a replacement, making it a like-for-like electrical load for existing wiring.

Using the latest LUMINUS LED chips, measured light output has increased from 4,500 to 6,500 lumen — an increase of 2,000 lumen over the previous model.

Why Three Beam Angles?

The original CR-1022 had a fixed 60-degree beam angle. As the product became more widely used across different tractor models and applications, it became clear that a single beam angle could not optimally serve every use case. Different machines, mounting positions and work tasks require different light patterns.

CRAWER therefore developed the updated CR-1022 in three variants:

  • CR-1022-40 | 40° — a focused beam with greater range
  • CR-1022-60 | 60° — a versatile beam balancing width and range
  • CR-1022-90 | 90° — an extra-wide beam for maximum coverage close to the machine

As a general principle: the narrower the beam angle, the further the light reaches. A wider beam angle distributes light over a broader area closer to the machine.

CR-1022-40: Focused Light for Greater Range

The CR-1022-40 has a narrow, focused 40-degree beam that projects light further forward, providing good visibility at greater distance from the machine.

This variant is most effective for large fields, open terrain, and applications where forward visibility at distance is the priority — for example, when operating wide or trailed implements, or during faster-paced work such as mowing.

The CR-1022-40 performs best where light range is more important than maximum coverage width.

CR-1022-60: The Versatile All-Rounder

The CR-1022-60 offers a balanced combination of width and range. The beam is wide enough to illuminate a broad working area while retaining sufficient forward visibility.

This makes the 60-degree variant suitable for most standard agricultural tasks, including mowing, raking, baling, and general field work.

Where the optimal beam angle is uncertain, the CR-1022-60 is the most versatile choice across the widest range of applications.

CR-1022-90: Maximum Coverage Around the Machine

The CR-1022-90 distributes light over an extra-wide angle, creating broad, even illumination close to and around the tractor or machine.

This variant is well suited to applications where close-range visibility is more important than forward range: front loader work, coupling and uncoupling implements, yard operations, and work in confined spaces or close to crop rows.

The 90-degree variant was originally developed specifically for vineyard applications, where clearance between the tractor and the crop is often minimal and wide light coverage is essential. The broad beam pattern is also effective on tractors that lack side-mounted work lights: by positioning two lamps on the rear mudguards and two at the front angled outward, near-360-degree coverage around the machine can be achieved.

Matching Beam Angle to Application

The correct variant depends primarily on the distance at which visibility is required and the width of the area to be illuminated.

Combining Beam Angles

The three variants can be combined on a single machine to create a light pattern tailored to specific requirements. For example: a 40-degree lamp at the front for forward visibility at range, combined with 60 or 90-degree lamps at the sides and rear for coverage around the machine. The optimal combination depends on the tractor model, available mounting positions, and the primary work tasks.
